ATKIN, Louise Rae

1939 - 2024

After several years of declining health, Louise Rae Atkin, 84, of Georgeville, Quebec, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Magog Hospital. The family and everyone who knew Louise is deeply saddened. She is dearly missed by those left behind.

Louise was born in Georgeville, Quebec to parents Harry and Elizabeth (Wilson) Atkin on December 30, 1939. She attended schools in Georgeville and Fitch Bay, and Princess Elizabeth High School in Magog.

Some Georgeville residents may remember her working at the Ladybug Boutique or making Christmas gifts for needy children. She was a long-time employee of the Butters Center of Austin, Quebec where she selflessly cared for children with special needs. Louise continued to care for adults with special needs in her home until she retired.

She was preceded in death by her son, David Crawford, and her first husband, Ian Crawford, and her late husband, Lyndon McKelvey.

Louise is survived by her brother, John Atkin (Jeannie); by her children, Donna (Murray), Catherine (Timothy), and Lorne (Debbie) Crawford; by her step-children, Miles (Ella), Juanita, George, Randy (Nancy), Tom (Nancy), Annita (Gordon), Tim (Anne), and Glen (Heidi) McKelvey; by her grandchildren, Krista, Jessica (Ian), Erica (Ryan), Ryan (Tatyana), and Leah (Justin) Keet, and Sydney and Zackary Crawford; by her 19 step-grandchildren, by her 6 great-grandchildren; by her 38 step-great-grandchildren; by her step-great-great-grandchild; and by her niece, Betsy (Ken) Atkin and nephew, Andrew Atkin.

The family would like to express sincere thanks for the dedicated and compassionate care given by the staff at the Manoir Stanstead where Louise lived for six years with her husband, Lyndon and where she felt at home. The staff at the Bannerman Palliative Care Unit in the Magog Hospital were greatly appreciated for their end of life care and the Cass Funeral Home for their support as well.

On Monday, September 2, 2024, a graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at the MacPherson Cemetery (Chemin Magoon Point, Georgeville, QC) followed by a Celebration of Louise Atkin’s Life at 3 p.m. at the Murray Memorial Hall (4680 Chemin de Georgeville, Canton de Stanstead, Qc) where a light lunch and refreshments will be served for family and friends.

Donations are accepted to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Canada.
