Lori Lynn Salfi

1960-2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death Lori Lynn Salfi (nee Higginson) on Monday, July 29, 2024. Loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. Lori is survived by her husband, Peter, sons Anthony (Carly Visaggio) and Patrick. Grandmother to Sawyer. Daughter to Dorothy Higginson and the late John Higginson. Sister to Barbara Martinez (Fernando) and Heather Higginson (Brian Hughes). Sister-in-law to Anna Benforte (Vito), and daughter-in-law to the late Maria Salfi and Antonio Salfi. Lori was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 20, 1960. She graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Education. Lori was employed by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and taught for many years at W.O. Mitchel Public School. Lori fought a courageous battle with early-onset Dementia and Parkinsons. The family asks that those who knew Lori celebrate her life in their own meaningful way. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish, may make a memorial donation to the Dementia Society of Ottawa-Renfrew County or to the Starwood Family Support Group. The family wishes to extend a big thank you to the staff of Extendicare Starwood Long Term Care, who were all devoted to Lori’s excellent care.

The Salfi family

Lori taught 2 of my children at WOM and I also taught there. Lori’s sharp wit and offbeat sense of humour were well known. I’d often crack up as she whispered something humourous to me as we passed one another in the hall. Sitting beside her in the staff room always guaranteed some laughs.

My heartfelt sympathy to all of Lori’s family on the loss of a lovely person. She certainly will be missed.

The Salfi and Higginson families

I had the pleasure of meeting Lori through her sister, Barb. A friendship developed and we shared many common interests. I truly enjoyed spending time with Lori exploring nooks and crannies of the Ottawa Valley, having dinners with the gals, looking for Monarch butterfly caterpillars every fall, taking summer workshops/courses and just enjoying each other's company. Lori was a gentle and kind soul who had a wonderful sense of humour. She was a special gal and I will miss her friendship. May she rest in light and eternal peace. I am sending heartfelt condolences to Lori’s family and may your cherished memories help guide you through these difficult times.

The Salfi and Higginson families

Thinking of Lori, I am most reminded of the times my family shared with her family when we were young children. The trip to see Grandma and Grandpa Higginson in Winnipeg is one of my most cherished childhood memories. Later in life, I spent a few years living in Ottawa and I was able to see Lori and family much more. Those years, when we were so young, just starting our careers and just beginning to understand how important family and friends are in life, is the way I wish we could all enjoy life…always. Lori’s quick wit, her sense of humour and her genuine laugh always made me smile. She possessed such a positive attitude and I recall how much of an impression she left on me because of the type of person she was. I know she will be deeply missed by all of you and by her close friends. It’s tough to find a nicer, more sincere and happy person than Lori. I hope she has found peace and can continue to spread her wonderful humour among others through her spirit. I will always remember her with admiration and fondness.
