It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Lionel "Tab" Hunter, on September 19, 2022 at the age of 87.
Lionel will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Simone Périard, his children Chantal (Geoff), Marc (Jackie) and Michelle, and his adored grandchildren Logan, Hudson, Garrett and Anona.
Lionel is also survived by his sisters Denise and Micheline, his brother Jacques (Jeanne), his sister-in-law Jeannine, his godsons Marcel Hunter and Marc Patry, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Irène (Fortin), his brothers Jean-Paul, Réal, Martin, Roger, Charles-Albert and Michel, and his sister Lily.
Born on April 6,1935, Lionel grew up on a farm in Saint-Cyrille, Quebec. At the age of 18, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and traveled to several countries, including India, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Germany, France and England.
Lionel married the love of his life, Simone, on July 2, 1960. Lionel, Simone and their young family lived on military bases in Quebec and Ontario. During this period, they spent a lot of time together as a family in hockey arenas in the winter and at their cottage near Maniwaki where they spent their summers.
After retiring from the RCAF, Lionel had a second career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), where he worked as a security officer for numerous embassies as well as the residences of the Governor General and the Prime Minister.
Lionel's family wishes to thank the medical staff of the Hull Hospital for their compassionate care.
A celebration of Lionel's life will take place on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 10:00 AM at la Coopérative funéraire de l'Outaouais - Pavillon La Vérendrye, 1369, boul. La Vérendrye Ouest, Gatineau.
