Rolleston, Larry Allan

ROLLESTON, Larry Allan

1949 - 2020

Peacefully, at the Magog Hospital Palliative Care Centre on Friday, December 18, 2020 at the age of 71, Larry chose to leave this world with the same dignity, strength and courage that is who he was throughout life.  Dearly beloved and cherished husband of Lynn (Sherman), former husband of the late Mary-Ellen Hughes who predeceased him in 2007.  Son of the late Rufus and Alberta (Jones) Rolleston, and of the late Rheta (Jones) Bishop.  Much loved brother to Garry, Marlene (deceased), Heather and Tammy.  Dear step-father of Steve (Deanna) in Pennsylvania, and David in Stanstead.  Adored Grandpa of Alex and Carter.  Also left to mourn are his dear Uncle Bill (Marilyn), brothers and sisters-in-law Bob & Barb (Sherman) McTear, Jim Hughes (Nancy) and Sue (Hughes) McIntosh, and Bill Michell, as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Born in Montreal on April 18, 1949, Larry graduated from Sunnyside High School (Stanstead) and went on to complete his studies as an Engineering Technician at Ryerson College in Toronto.  In 1984, he joined Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) in Pinawa, Manitoba where he was an active member of the Lions Club and Fire Department.  Larry’s passion throughout his life was fishing and his joy at catching “the big ones” with his buddies in northern Manitoba and Ontario is captured in numerous treasured photos.  After a transfer to Deep River, Ontario in 2008, and upon retirement in 2011, Larry and Lynn decided to move back “home” to Stanstead where he could live out his final years being close to his family.

Due to the COVID pandemic there will be no funeral at this time.  We hope to hold a graveside/memorial service in the Spring and will advise the future date.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Larry’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.  Sincere thanks to Drs. Blanchard, Dupont and Bromich at the CHUS-Fleurimont, and to Dr. Masse at the Palliative Care Centre.  Special, heartfelt thanks go to Gloria, Lucy and Pascale for their tender, loving and cheerful care of Larry during his last two weeks.. he/we loved you girls.  Last, but never least, a huge, loving thank-you to our son, Dave, for being my rock and getting me home almost every day, to Victor and Linda Lapenna for dedicating your love and time to Larry’s happiness every single morning and to helping me at a moment’s notice, and to Earl Wood for being there to get me to the hospital.  So many friends to thank and can never thank you enough!!   Arrangements entrusted to Cass Funeral Homes….

                    “I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you, honeybear;

                   But instead, I was deeply honoured knowing you spent the rest of your life with me.”

Lynn and Family

Larry was an amazing friend. His kindness was over the top. I met Larry in Deep River where he lived for awhile. We might have shared a giggle over a drink or two. Our group of friends were always there for each other. Lynn was so caring towards Larry. He certainly was the love of her life and I could certainly see that. May you Rest In Peace Larry. Your smiles were contagious for sure. Be free my friend

My thoughts are with you, Lynn, and with your family at this time.
I often play 'Uncle Fred' with my grandsons here in Quebec and my sister and brother in Ontario. No matter what, the game board Larry made for me travels with me. I will continue to say hi to Larry every time I play. It brings me luck!
Thank you Larry. I will always think of you fondly. Rest in peace.

Such a heartbreak to lose the man you loved so dearly. You have been in my thoughts and my heart ever since hearing this. I know you will be OK but I bet it doesn’t feel like that right now. Sending you love at such a difficult time.

I worked with Larry at the URL and we became friends and enjoyed quite a few fishing
and snowmobile trips together. I was very sad to hear of his passing and yet still so young.
To the family our thoughts and sympathy.
Take care
