FULLER CROOK, Joan
1932 - 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Nanny, Great Nanny, Joan Mary Crook (nee Fuller) on January 16, 2021, at the Grace Village seniors’ home in Lennoxville, borough of Sherbrooke, Quebec.
Born in August of 1932 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, to parents Hilda and James Fuller, she was in her 89th year.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, William, whom she married on December 27, 1952. Together, they raised five children: Debbie Hudon (Ron), Jim (Chantal), Bill (Linda), Mike (Holly), and Barry (Adam Belhachemi); all of whom profoundly mourn her loss. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Jenn Morrison (Matt), Corey Bowen (Sybille), Brian (Katelyn), Melissa (Maxime Rousseau), Rebecca (Mike Johns), Andrew (Steph Hume), Michelle (Jake Ritari), Curtis, Megan, and Chelsea; and her great-grandchildren: Emily and Sophia Morrison, Lukas and Niklas Bowen, Elliot and Eloise Rousseau, and William Crook.
Raised in Sherbrooke, Joan moved to Ayer’s Cliff with her husband and baby daughter in 1954 when Bill bought the garage which he renamed Crook’s Service Station after purchasing it from Mr. Stevenson. Over the years, even while busy tending to the needs of a large family, Joan worked at the garage doing the bookkeeping, first with her husband, Bill, and then, after his death, with her son,Mike. Mom loved chatting with all of the customers who came into the garage.
Mom was a fun-loving person with an infectious, self-effacing sense of humour. She was always ready with a kind word or joke. She had a great love of the outdoors, and especially enjoyed any time spent near the water, whether it be at our former cottage on Bacon’s Bay or our many vacations to Old Orchard Beach. She led a very active life and approached new hobbies with great enthusiasm - curling, golfing, gardening, etc.
And, she loved to drive! One of her greatest joys when she got a little older and was no longer so physically active, was to get into the car and drive for hours through the countryside on the back roads.
Her greatest love, though, was for her family. She volunteered for just about everything when it came to school or sporting events. She made a point of being there for her children and grandchildren whenever possible. The many memories of time spent with Mom, Nanny, Great Nanny, will forever be cherished.
We are very fortunate that Mom passed her last few years at Grace Village. She loved her room with a view of the front entrance and took great joy from the friendly waves and greetings she exchanged with the people coming and going. And she loved the staff, whose kindness and compassion we will never forget!
As a family, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the kind and loving care Mom received from the staff at Grace Village and from Dr. Zoltan Ferenczi. We can’t thank you enough for the comfort you brought to Mom, especially in her last days.
Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Grace Village Care Foundation at www.gracevillage.ca/donations .
Due to COVID-19 risks and restrictions, the family has decided that no funeral service will be held at this time. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at a later date to be determined.
