MASTINE PEZZI, Hazel Diana

1949 - 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hazel (Mastine) Pezzi, who departed this life on May 30th, 2024 (Aged 74), surrounded by her family at La Maison Aube Lumiere after a brief but brave battle with cancer. Hazel was born on July 19, 1949, in Kingsey Falls, the youngest of 17 children of the late Ida Gwendolyn Bradford and the late Eddie Nelson Mastine.

0n April 5th, 1969, Hazel married the love of her life, Ariosto (Harry) Pezzi, husband of 55 years, and together they built a beautiful life in Danville. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother to three children: Tina (Steve Bilodeau), Mark (Karen Painter), and Mike (Julie Langlois). Her life was enriched by her seven adored grandchildren: Bradley, Bryanna, Brayden, Brandyce, Chase, Cole, and Dawson. She also embraced her step-grandchildren, Casey and Brianna.

She was the sister of the late Margaret (late Harold Blake), late Stanley (late Ethel), late Clifford (Joyce), Blanche (late Nelson Mastine), late Everett (Eileen), late Harold (Shirley), Raymond (Elizabeth), Marjorie (Lloyd Doyle), John (Barbara), Dorothy (Roy Bushey), and she remained the cherished youngest of her large and loving family.

She was the sister-in-law of Raffaella (late Natale Tallarico), Elio (Madeleine), late Marisa (late Baldassare Calandrino), Pierino (late Michelle), and Licia (late Antonio Falcone).

She also leaves to mourn many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Hazel's family and friends will remember her for her boundless love, generosity, and dedication.

A resident of Danville for most of her life, Hazel was known for her love of shopping and her unwavering support for local community activities and fundraisers. She was a familiar and cherished presence at many events, always ready to lend a hand and contribute to causes close to her heart, including participating in scrapbooking events like "Create For Comfort" a fundraiser for La Maison Aube-Lumière. She was one of the founding members of the Mastine Family Association (MFA) focused on bringing family together while preserving its history and served on its Executive Committee for the past 34 years. She found immense joy in her family, and her legacy of kindness and strength will live on through them.

Visitation will take place at Cass Funeral Home, 295 Principale South, Richmond, on Friday, June 7th, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday June 8th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the St-Augustine's Anglican Church in Danville at 2 p.m., followed by the burial at the Protestant cemetery in Danville. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family, followed by a luncheon in the St-Augustine's Church Hall.

We join many others who knew Aunt Hazel in offering our deepest sympathy for her passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that you can celebrate her life knowing that she enjoyed and shared it with so many. She was always full of life and had such an uplifting presence when she was in a room.

An American philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, “It is not length of life, but depth of life.” Michael and I believe that the measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives one touched and the sorrow one leaves behind. If the outpouring of sympathy on the loss of Aunt Hazel is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that she had a life well-lived.

May you find peace and comfort in knowing that this loss is felt by all who knew and loved her.

Hazel Pezzi

Aunt Hazel was the best Godmother, passionate about my well being and sharing life experiences to make mine better.
Words cannot express how much I will miss her . This saying hangs on my wall and I will think of her every time I read it.
Broken Chain
We little New, the day that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, and death we do the same.
It broke her heart to lose you, but you don’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day got called you home.
You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken. And nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all that I miss her. She was truly one of a kind.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to your family. We know how it is to loss someone you hold dear and love so much. Aunt Hazel put her heart, sole and passion in to everything she did and it shows by the many peoples lives she touched.
She leaves us all with very fond memories like many excitable games of spoons, playing cards and more. Though Aunt Hazel may be physically gone, she will always live on in the memories and stories you tell to the friends, family and generations to come. We can't be there with you to support you but know we send our thoughts, prayers, love and hugs your way.
