RICHARDSON, Gordon Cameron
September 1945 - August 10, 2022
Gordon passed away peacefully one-day shy of celebrating 50 years of marriage with his dear wife Judith Ann (nee Hughes). He is survived by his children Mark (Sarah-Lee) & Krista Chambers (Neal) and five grandchildren, Cameron, Jack, Beatrice, Andrew and Rebecca. He is also survived by his brother Ron (Marilyn) & nephews Chad and Evan (Michelle).
Born in Brandon Manitoba, Gordon’s Christian upbringing & his faith in Christ were the driving force of his life. He greatly appreciated the ministry of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church where he served in various roles over many years. Gord loved his church community & cherished his group of Bible study friends. Being tone deaf he was never asked to join the choir but loved music & sang anyway!!
Gord never imagined as a prairie-boy the varied and fascinating path his career would take. He obtained a degree in Agriculture from the U. of MB and a Master’s in Agro-economics from the U. of Guelph. He worked for Agriculture Canada for 37 years starting as a food inspector & ultimately playing a key role in the creation of Canada’s food export service. Through work, he travelled the world & had the opportunity to live with his family in Mexico City & with Judy in Singapore.
Gordon loved time spent with his family and encouraged them and others to pursue their interests, often getting more excited about certain projects than they were! Gordon loved meeting people & spending time with his friends. His genuine interest in others & his ability to chat easily with anyone were some of his most recognized traits. His sense of humour & laughter were infectious.
Gordon was a life-long learner with varied hobbies, ranging from philately (he had a fine collection of early MB postal marks!), book collecting (he volunteered at Library and Archives Canada), genealogy (he researched/wrote histories of both his parent’s families) and outdoor activities. He dearly loved to travel & experience other cultures with friends & family. He rarely visited a place he didn’t become enamoured with, or speak of settling down in someday.
Recently he set up a small apiary in his backyard with some friends. Everyone enjoyed this venture and the honey produced.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church (971 Woodroffe Ave.) at 10am on Saturday Sept. 17. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Gord’s name to ratanak.org or lung.ca.
