GISÈLE MARIE LUCILLE ST-DENIS

15 May 1929 – 04 May 2024

Rouyn, Québec – Ottawa, Ontario

Predeceased by her parents Moise St-Denis and Imelda (Desy), her brothers and their spouses Donat (Marie), and Jeannot, and her husband of 32 years Serenus Landry. Lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses Diane Laporte (Gerry), Joyce Landry, Lynn Landry (Andy) and Larry Landry (Nicole); her grandchildren and spouses Mike Laporte (Anik), Chris Laporte (Elizabeth), Kim Laporte, Ryan Nixon (Noy), and Raphael; and great grandchildren Emma, Caleb, Max, George.

Confirmed Roman Catholic in Trois-Rivières, Québec, Gisele’s life was marked by moves throughout her childhood, her married life and beyond, between multiple towns and cities in four provinces. Throughout it all she brought her love of reading, painting, music, quilting and needlework, and an everlasting curiosity and ‘joie de vie’, all of which she passed down to her children. She was well served by her attention to detail, and her ability to tinker and embrace technology and gadgets.  But her superpowers were in how she, through her own example, taught her children to show respect and kindness to every person; and in how she would adapt to any situation without complaint, composing herself and ready to meet and join every moment of joy.  She eagerly joined every family celebration and meal, bright eyed and bushy tailed, and tickled us all with the extra enthusiasm and twinkle in her eye when the sweets came out.

She left us on ‘May the 4th’ accompanied by a nurse dressed as a Star Wars Jedi Knight.

May the Force be with her always.

Loved and missed by all of us.

With special thanks to…

~ The Elizabeth Bruyère Palliative Unit at Saint Vincent Hospital for the wonderful care they provided for her and for her family in her last days.

~ To those at Lord Lansdowne, and Alta Vista Manor, who were caring and attentive to her needs in her last years.

~ The Metropolitan Bible Church for the comfort and support they provided her for so many years before.

A small family Memorial Service was held on May 9th at the Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa, followed by a graveside farewell at the Glenburn (United) Cemetery of Curran, County Road 19, Township of Alfred and Plantagenet, Prescott and Russell United Counties
