MESSIER, Gerard

1946 - 2023

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerard (Jerry) Messier, at the age of 77 on February 27, 2023, at Extendicare in Kirkland Lake.  Jerry was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy Messier, his mother and father Dora and Rosaire Messier, and his sisters Irene Gauthier and Eva Oshaughnessy.  Jerry is survived by his son Denis Messier (Glenda Messier) and daughter Nicole Wotton (Kelly Wotton), his grandchildren Daniel Messier (Amanda Mackenzie), Tyler Messier (Amanda Popert), and Erin Messier (Sam Powless), Christopher Addison (Zandra Hernandez), Kayla Wotton and his great grandchildren Hailey, Madison, Sophie, Allie, Bentley, and Lucia and his bother Rene Messier (Karen).

Jerry was a miner by trade; however, his favourite role was being a father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He loved nothing more than spending time with family in friends at the cottage fishing, hunting, playing cards, and sitting around a large campfire drinking beer and telling stories.

Jerry was also well known for his awesome sense of humour and his love of a great practical joke.  He always managed to make those around him laugh.

Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held this spring with date and time to be shared with friends and family at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s name to Blanche River Health Foundation.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Jerry. He was quite the character. We were neighbors growing up on Taylor Ave. Great guy. May he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. Have many memories of hunting with the family in the old bus and then later at Holmes Lake. He loved to talk about the hunting trips, outdoors and also enjoyed a good laugh with family and friends.

the Messier family:

Please accept my deepest sympathies at this time of loss. I remember Jerry well. He was the one who broke me into the mining trade when I was 21. He was a pleasure to work for as my boss, and work with as my trainer, in a small barite mine in Matachewan in 1979/80. He taught me many mining skills, and some tricks, that served me well for my career later in Kirkland Lake, and then Timmins. Jerry was also a great storyteller and had a sense of humour which I enjoyed. Good memories indeed. Again, my thoughts are with you all in this time of grief.
