George Reklitis
1974 - 2023
George Reklitis passed away on December 13, 2023 at the age of 49 from medical complications. The last year especially presented many challenges related to George’s affliction with Huntington Disease.
George is predeceased by his father Nikolas Reklitis and is survived by his devoted mother Gisele (nee Bertrand) and sister Clea.
On his mother’s side, George leaves behind his uncles Guy, Paul (Ginette), Serge (Cecile) and numerous cousins. In Ontario his cousins Demetrios (Penny), Menas, Danielle and their children Loucas (Jessie), Yanni (Kristin), Marianna, Nicholas and Ioanna (Nick). In Greece Leonidas (Nadina), Yianni and their children.
George dearly loved his 3 Godchildren Loucas, Marianna and Panagiota. His good high school friends Munish and Angelis visited George frequently and Dean Theo texted him daily. George treasured all of his family and friends and truly appreciated those who stayed in touch and supported him and his family throughout his illness.
George earned his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree at Carleton University and Master degree in Political Science at Dalhousie University. He enjoyed his work in the Government of Canada with the Canada School of Public Service and retired in 2022 due to medical disability.
An avid soccer and hockey player until he could no longer participate, George then followed these sports daily on the television along with Formula 1 car races. George was a regular jogger and could often be seen running on the streets and pathways in Nepean/Ottawa. This was one of the activities that George missed the most during the last few years.
George loved to travel; he backpacked through Europe with his friend Dean Theo, travelled twice to Guatemala to study Spanish, once to Costa Rica and often to his father’s beloved homeland Greece. George’s last trip abroad was with his Godson Loucas, to visit his cousins in Greece in 2017.
George was “mister personality” warm, inclusive and charismatic, a GREAT friend to everyone who knew him. His smile truly lit up the world.
Friends can pay their respects on Monday, December 18, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church (1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa), with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery. Immediately following the interment, friends and family will gather for a makaria reception to celebrate George’s life, at the Hellenic Event Centre beside the Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of George to the Huntington Society of Canada and the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church.
