YOUNG, George "Bert"

1936 - 2022

It is with deep sadness that the family of George “Bert” Young announces his passing at Teck Pioneer Residence on September 4th, 2022 at the age of 86.

Bert is survived by his loving wife Marilyn (nee Bennie) of 63 years and three children,
Gary (Evelyn) Young of Marathon, Susan Young (Sean) of Kirkland Lake, and Richard (MaryLee) Young of Kirkland Lake. With 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren, Bert is survived by his brother Jim Young, predeceased by his parents George and Clara Young and his brother Charlie Young.

Bert was born in Kenora, Ontario then moved to Kirkland Lake, Ontario where he began his life going to King George School and KLCVI. At age 16 he served in the Army from 1952 -1957. Shortly after meeting Marilyn Bennie, they were married in 1959, then Bert went to on to work for the Department of Highways, then onto the Kirkland Lake Police Force and lastly to the Ontario Provincial Police for 31 years in Kirkland Lake. He retired and moved onto his hobbies of many...Custom Stone Clocks, Canes, Knives, Jigs, Diamond Willow Furniture; pretty much anything could be made by him. On the days that he was not out enjoying his fishing and hunting with his family, he taught us all how to manage in the bush and know our surroundings well. His life skills and adventures in Hunting and Fishing skills have been passed on through to his whole family as we have all become avid outdoors men and women. Such an adventurous man he was with many friends from all over the world he kept in touch with and spoke of often.

Bert met his Loving wife Marilyn at St. Peter's Anglican Church while she was in the choir and he sat with his mother in the pews, then they got married in 1959 and began a beautiful life together.
Bert's life was a very busy one with his loving family, always traveling to visit and put his little touches into our lives and offering his help. Together having many adventures which are so memorable to all.

Bert was an incredible man always smiling with a huge heart always offering help to others and with many incredible stories to share. Bert will be sorely missed by his family, our community and people who cared and loved him with his same dedication.

Bert's family wish to extend special thank you to the amazing staff at Teck Pioneer Residence, for all their compassion, dedication and support. It truly means a great deal to the family.

In keeping to Bert's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Funeral Service will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church on Saturday, September 17th, 2022 at 1:00 pm.

Family & Friends

Bert, at that time Constable Young stopped to help me get back on the road behind Goodfish. Being thirteen driving without a licence I was terrified he would tell my Dad or give me fine that I had no money to pay. He told me to take the truck back and leave it parked until I was licensed. Hard to imagine that happening nowadays. Sorry to hear of Bert’ passing. He’ll be missed in the Federal.
