Merry Deveau and Family

I was very surprised to hear about Gaston's passing and that I didn't realize that he had some health problems. Now he is with his mom Dad and brothers and sister. You were a unique person and you had your way of thinking but that's what made you different. RIP Gaston

About Gaston...

Gaston was among the very finest people I have ever met. We met in 1995 or so, and for almost 30 years he made me laugh. He was brilliant, scathingly brilliant, so funny, and so warm. We hit it off like a house on fire- I adored him right off the block. Fast friends.

He was always determined to do the right thing, whether it worked out the way he hoped or not, and he had a very strong sense of morality and justice. He was brave, even when he was scared, and he taught me so, so much. I am devastated to have missed my opportunity to say goodbye, but I know his much beloved chosen family has seen to his care and his sending off, and for that, for them, for the care they showed him (you all should have heard how he talked about you, he was so proud to be a part of your family) I can never thank them enough. I had hoped to make it out to KL next summer- well. Well. Don't we always think there will be more time than there is?

I can't believe I'm never going to hear his voice again. I can hear him right now, plain as day, that wry little laugh. God. What a loss for all of us, eh? What a loss. Rest in peace, bud. Rest in peace.
