EDWARDS, Eleanor

1941 - 2023

Eleanor Mabel Edwards (Borgford) May 26, 1941 - June 1, 2023

With heavy hearts, the family shares the heartbreaking news of the peaceful passing of Eleanor Edwards (formerly Borgford) on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Temiskaming Hospital. Eleanor, the eldest daughter of Ted and Frances Borgford, was born on May 26, 1941, in New Liskeard. She spent her early years in Kerns and later made Hudson her home when she married Harold Edwards on November 23, 1957. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey of 65 years, raising five extraordinary children along the way.

She is survived by her loving husband Harold, son Steven (Loretta), daughters Brenda Wilson (Mark), Sandy Edwards, Angie Stevens (Bryan), son Ted (Nadya); 10 grandchildren: Brad (Sarah), Chantal (Stephane), Alana, Anthony (Tania), Audisho, Samirra, Melissa (Simon), Samantha (David), Taylor, Jared; great-grandchildren: Drenady (Kaelyn), Nicholas, Jeremy, Marcus, Daniel, Myriam, Brayden, Nolan, Journey, Violet, Jack, Ada, Islay, Nora.

She is also survived by her sisters Theo Aitchison, Christine Nowry, Sherry Dryden, and sister-in-law Nancy Borgford. Predeceased by her brothers Murray, David (sister-in-law Theresa), and brothers-in-law David Aitchison and John Nowry.

Prior to pursuing her accounting career, Eleanor dedicated herself to managing the family and Harold Edwards Carpentry from behind the scenes. Her skills extended beyond the home as she efficiently handled the books at Campsall Electric, Ebert Welding, Mid-North Containers and various church organizations. We all remember Eleanor being the first with a flash camera, documenting family events and memorable trips. She never backed away from a sewing challenge, producing beautiful wedding and bridesmaids dresses. Her time at Beach Gardens nurtured her passion for both flower and vegetable gardening, creating a haven where countless blooms and plants thrived. Eleanor took great delight in supporting local 4-H clubs, collaborating with Linda Scott’s catering ventures, and contributing to the construction of Christmas donation boxes for charitable organizations.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our neighbourhood friends for their incredible in-person support, the community paramedic team, Dr. Blount, and staff at Temiskaming Hospital for helping us with the support, care and friendship provided over the past months.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Society in Eleanor’s memory would be appreciated.

A service to honour Eleanor’s memory will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in New Liskeard at 11:30 a.m. on Friday June 9, 2023.

I can’t count how many times Eleanor and I crossed paths. Sleep overs for Brenda’s birthdays, catering staff for Linda Scott, 4-H, Bikers Reunion and so many community events. You were involved in everything and so loved and respected in the community. Eleanor always had a smile and kind word. She had a twinkle in her eye that made you think she knew all your secrets, but was willing to keep them for you. Love to you all.
