HEDLEY, Edward John (Eddie)
1938 - 2023
Edward John Hedley of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023, with his loving wife by his side after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 5430 Old Richmond Road Ottawa, Ontario K2H 9C4.
Edward was born September 28, 1938 to Edward and Ivy May Hedley. Edward married the love of his life, Eva Mary Edge on February 20, 1958 in Newchurch Parish Church in Culcheth, Lancashire, England. They emigrated to Canada in May 1968 together with three young children, Lesley (Mau), Nicholas and David. They settled in Ottawa, Ontario where their fourth child, Jo (Daly) was born.
Edward served in the Royal Air Force from 1956 to 1961 servicing electronic equipment. After the RAF, he worked for the Ministry of Aviation in the UK. In Canada, he worked for the Federal government in the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce working on computer systems. He ended his career with the Federal Government as Director General of Computer Services with the Secretary of State. Following his retirement with the Federal Government, he worked with LGS and with EXOCOM as Director, Management Consulting.
Edward and Eva were introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1964 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. They were sealed for time and all eternity on October 2, 1965 in the London, England temple. Edward served in several callings in the church, including as Branch President of the Scarborough branch in Yorkshire, England, as bishop's counselor, Young Men's President, scoutmaster, seminary teacher and Bishop in the Ottawa Third Ward in the Ottawa Ontario stake, and as Branch President of the Smiths Falls Branch, Kingston Ontario mission. Edward loved to be in the service of others and freely gave of his time and talents to help people around him.
Edward had a genuine smile and a keen sense of humor. He loved his wife deeply. He loved outdoor adventures and annual trips to Florida. Friends and family will remember his humility, timely advice and caring nature.
Edward is survived by his wife Eva, his bothers, Alan and Graham, his sisters, Maureen (Knight) and Monica (Maurice) Dibble, his children, Lesley (Star) Mau, Nicholas (Robin) Hedley, David (Jane) Hedley and Jocelyn (Trevor) Daly; his 15 grandchildren, Amanda (Matthew) Morazain, Teuila Mau, Christopher (Amanda) Hedley, Melina (Michael) Joasil, Terence (Amelia) Hedley, Devon Hedley, Braden (Andrea) Hedley, Connor (Ana) Hedley, Caitlyn (Caleb) Loftus, James Mau, Alec Daly, Jacob (Mack) Daly, Charlotte Hedley, Owen Hedley, and Paul Daly; and his 19+ great-grandchildren Terrell, Kiana, Keala, Ciara, Ethan, Angelina, Leia, Mickael, Bridgett, Chloe, Isabella, Everett, Oliver, Riley, Ariana, Wyatt, Cade, Elric, Lennox and one more on the way.
