BERNDT (NEE BUTLER), Doris

1928 - 2021

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom,

Doris Theresa Berndt (nee Butler)

on October 3, 2021 at the Hopital de Papineau at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Douglas R. Berndt and loving mother to Alex (Diane Chartrand), Dunnie (Gladys Smith), Claude (deceased), Rocky, Susan, Ann, Darlene (Daniel Perras), Bobby (Elaine Moore) (late Guylaine Lepage) and Freida (Marc Hebert).  She leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, Joey (Brenda Price) (Alexa/Alyssa), Mathieu, Corey Gagnon (Suzanne Jolly), Lydia Gagnon (Dave Collier), Melissa (Mathieu Chenier) (Sara/Ellie), Justin (Annik Martel) (Chloe/Pierre Olivier/Melody), Shelley (Pat Perrier) (Aleksandra/Gabrielle/Ariane), Craig, Christopher, Anthony, Andrew (Dallas), Kevin Hebert (Sam Croteau), Cassandra (Jarrette Jones) (Emma/Sierra-Jade), Jesse (Samantha Smith), Robin (Chris Leeman) (Ricky/Paulo/Phoenix), (Late Michelle). She also leaves behind her sisters Monica (Bob Lafrance), Vivian, Betty, Lorraine, Virginia and brothers Alvin (Ellen Murphy) and Mervin (Eileen Gauthier), sister-in-law’s Ruby Butler (nee Rollins) and Joyce Berndt (nee Storey), and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Julia Miller and Alexander Butler, brothers: Dennis, Cletus and Leo.

After a rapid decline in her health, Mom’s final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in so many ways throughout her long, yet very memorable life.  Over the years, Mom was fortunate to have a circle of loving and supportive family and friends, especially at her Church and the Country Club she attended in Mayo, her love of playing darts and shuffleboard at the Buckingham Legion as well as her love of gardening, making preserves and planting flowers. Anyone who knew Mom or even just met her would immediately know that she had a warm and caring heart.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the medical staff and nurses for their tender care they provided to Doris and the family while at the Hopital de Papineau and to the CLSC for their continued support throughout the years, as well as her caregivers Shirley Ellement and Josée Cere for caring for her when we could not be there.

Friends and family may offer their condolences in Buckingham at the Coopérative Funéraire de l'Outaouais (116 Rue Maclaren E) on Friday, October 22, 2021 as follows:

Private Immediate Family Viewing: 2:00-3:00pm.

The Berndt and Butler families and friends of my Aunt Doris

My deepest condolences on the loss of this sweet lady. Aunt Doris was one of the sweetest, gentlest souls that I have ever known. It was a pleasure and privilege to be a part of her life. Her delicious preserves will be missed but not as much as her warm hugs and generous smile. Rest in peace sweet Auntie.
Hugs and kisses to all who knew and loved her.

To the Family

I was blessed to have known Doris for many years. We sang together in the parish choir at St. Malachy, worked together at the annual Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Knock, and she shared her love for gardening with me. Every spring the flowering daffodils in my garden will remind me of her as she shared her bulbs with me. Rest in peace Doris. From our family to yours, our deepest sympathies on the loss of your Mom. Sincerely, Cheryl, Peter and girls.
