DYCK, Dagmar Ingrid

1969 - 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Dagmar Ingrid Dyck on June 7, 2024 at the age of 54.  She was the daughter of the late Windrick Eckbald Dyck and of the late Inge Hildegard Stegen.

She leaves to mourn her spouse Mr. Yann Deslauriers, her children Alec and Mathias, her sister Barbara (Ken) as well as many brothers and sisters-in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

To respect her wishes, there will be no funeral service.  The burial will be held at a later date in the privacy of family members.

Should you wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory would be appreciated.

The family wishes to thank the personnel of the Hull and Gatineau Hospitals as well as that of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal for the excellent care provided.

The family

I’m saddened to learn of Dagmar’s death.
I knew her from many aspects: as a child, playing with her sister Barb and my daughter; as a student , where she was well respected for her diligence, commitment to activities, a leader, helpfulness to other students; as a young mother visiting her mother in St Albert AB( Inge and I were friends).
As you work through the pain and sadness of your grief I hope that you will also be buoyed by recalling what a wonderful person she was.

Dagmar’s childhood friends from St. Albert, Alberta, are so saddened by this news: our hearts go out to you and your families. We have only happy memories of her kindness and strength.

Barb, Family and Friends

I was very sad to hear that Dagmar passed away.
I taught her for 3 years in the early 80's.
Dagmar was a truly wonderful person in so many ways.
She was intelligent and hard-working, but above all, so very kind and thoughtful.
Dagmar was a true gem.

Condolences to Barb and the family.

Yann and family

My heartfelt condolences on your loss.

I recall like yesterday working with Dagmar, and getting to know her, when she moved to Ottawa and joined Finance Canada. She was lovely, kind, intelligent, a hard worker and liked by all. My favorite memory of Dagmar, which always makes me smile, is when she invited me to join her, Yann and friends for a swim at Meech Lake after work. She literally swam circles around me to ensure my safe swim (aller-retour), as I was a recreational swimmer and not a long-distance swimmer like the rest of the group. She touched many lives, died too young and will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. May Dagmar rest in peace, and may her memory live on in your hearts and minds forever.

Dagmar’s loved ones

I was very sad to hear of Dagmar’s passing. I have many good memories of Dagmar from our high school years in St. Albert, and then our early adult years living in Edmonton. Dagmar was always kind and generous, and although we lost touch after she moved away, I have no doubt she remained so for the rest of her life. My condolences to her family and friends.

La famille

Bonjour,

Family and friends

I have so many memories of time spent with Dagmar. Now I realize how precious that time was.

I first met Dagmar when she worked for Alberta Treasury and she was one of my provincial and territorial counterparts. In those days before Zoom and Teams meetings, we had frequent in-person meetings. I admired her immensely and I was delighted when she moved to Ottawa. She used to tell everyone that I threw a house party for her when she moved here. I tried to get her to buy the house across the street from mine in the Glebe but suddenly she was in a committed relationship with her beloved Yann and her focus changed.

She was my supervisor at Finance Canada for the two years before my retirement in 2020. We worked well together and we were always discussing the intricacies of the 10 transfer payment programs that we administered. She had a strong team and we were all proud to support programs that were fundamental to provinces and territories. I have vivid memories of the last few days that we were in the office before the pandemic forced us to work from home. We were all working at top speed and Dagmar and her supervisor Galen Countryman ensured that new pandemic health care funding was delivered as soon as possible.

Dagmar and I also discussed our personal lives. She was a strong swimmer who preferred enormous pools. Dagmar proudly wore a gorgeous sweater that her mother had knitted for her. She missed her mother but was fortunate to have her sister Barbara in Jasper. Dagmar enjoyed visiting her relatives in Germany. We discussed ways to reduce the stress of our work. She adored my sausage rolls and was delighted when her sons loved the ones she made using the recipe I discovered on Spruce Eats (“Best Homemade Sausage Rolls”). She had tremendous empathy and, when my father was gravely ill, Dagmar said all the right things to comfort me as I sobbed on the phone.

It’s difficult to think that I will never see her again. However, it gives me great comfort to know that she was loved and appreciated by her family and friends.

Dagmar was truly one of a kind. She had an adventurous spirit and was humble, intelligent, analytical, and empathetic. I will never forget the trip we took to Penticton in the 90's for a triathlon. We giggled like schoolgirls and listened to the Hanson brothers' CD about a million times. I will always think of Dagmar when I hear their songs. She was always up to try anything, with a little coaxing, of course.

When we lived in Ottawa for a year, she swam, cycled, canoed, and hiked, even if she wasn't totally sold on the activity, simply because it was so fun to be together. She was an advocate for those who couldn't help themselves, knew how to organize committees, and implement change and SO smart! She was a great mother who loved her boys dearly and often spoke about them with pride. Yann grounded her and always supported and encouraged her.

Dagmar was my dear friend, and I will miss her dearly. If I can aspire to be half the woman she was, I will be very lucky. Take care, my dear friend. I will miss you so much.

Dagmar’s family

My deepest sympathies to her husband and children, and her extended family.
I was saddened to learn of Dagmar’s passing, at such a young age. I knew her from working in the same branch at Finance Canada, twice. First at the start of our careers in the federal-provincial relations directorate, and then many years later in the same directorate.
Dagmar was always kind, with a great inquisitive mind, and thoughtful remarks and contributions. I knew of her passion for swimming, her love for her family.
My heartfelt condolences to her family and dear friends. May she find peace.
