AUBREY, Charles

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles Aubrey on December 2, 2022, at the age of 44.  He was the son of Jean Aubrey and Danielle Michaud (Peter Geldart). He also leaves behind his brother Dominic (Naomy Lavigne) and his sister Mireille (Anthony Remaud), his niece Emma and his nephews Léo, Sacha and Victor as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Charles was the best fisherman, an amusing and much-loved uncle.  He was ingenious, always full of ideas, and had an extraordinary sense of humour. For many years he was the family’s jolly Santa Claus. Charles was always ready to lend a hand: he helped so many people move, and assembled all makes of barbecues! He was involved in all our numerous construction and renovation projects.  Charles was not an early-riser, but he was always good-humoured if woken early in the morning. We just needed to have coffee (and eggs, and bacon, and pancakes) and he was so happy. Charles lived the good life and he brightened the lives of all those who had the chance to know him.              

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at First Unitarian Congregation, 30 Cleary Avenue in Ottawa.  Family will receive condolences as of 10:45 a.m.

The family wishes to thank the personnel at the Hull Hospital for their support and for the good care provided to Charles.

The Aubrey Family

Charles’ sense of humour was unprecedented, his love for his family immense, his laughter infectious, and his free-spirited lackadaisicalness one of a kind. He left way too soon, leaving an inordinate amount of pain and sadness to those who loved him, and those who knew him. In his 44 years on this planet, Charles was more himself than most of us manage to be ourselves in our lifetimes. His trademark smirk will never be forgotten. My sincere condolences to the whole Aubrey family.

Jean, Danielle (Peter), Dominic (Naomy) et Mireille (Anthony)

Il y a des départs qui sont si inattendues qu'on reste sans mots. La tristesse, la colère et l'injustice sont ce que l'on ressent et nous avons bien raison, mais au-delà de ces sentiments il faut garder en mémoire et parler de ce qui nous avons aimé de Charles. Bien que je ne l'ai pas rencontré très souvent, je me souviens qu'il adorait sa mère, son frère et sa soeur, qu'il était très accueillant, sympathique et serviable. C'est donc ce qui va me rester en mémoire de Charles, mais c'est fort peu comparativement à ce que vous garderez en mémoire de lui.

Danielle Aubrey

Charles had a good life and he lived it well on his terms. With the love and the care given by you and his family, he was able to do those things that we all dream about. We are all saddened by the end of his journey but we are consoled by the richness he enjoyed in his life. Charles was happy and that's the way we will always remember him.
