Sincere sympathies to the family
I knew Cecile for years and yes she did everything fiercely
She had such a good sense of humor
Sorry for your loss
What does one say about a small, feisty woman with a big spirit. Cecile Young was born on March 6th, 1936, the only child of Aurele and Aline Gauthier. Born, raised and married in Kirkland Lake, she raised her family in the place she called home.
Cecile dreamed of travelling, but was always more comfortable in Kirkland Lake.
A creative spirit, Cecile dug into any project as if she had been doing it her whole life. From cake decorator, seamstress, tailor, painter and gardener, these were just a few of life’s enjoyments, passions and careers she had throughout her life. But it was her love of sewing that drew her to quilting.
Here she could use all of her passions in one arena and create the most wonderful and colourful quilts ever. Perhaps this was her way of keeping people she knew and loved, warm.
A recipient of the 2013 Trillium Award, honouring her contributions and work with the Horticultural Society for over 50 years, Cecile was the convener of the Community Civic Planting League, publisher of their newsletters, and also held a position on the membership and hospitality committee.
It didn’t stop there; Cecile helped establish the local Quilting Guild, holding the offices of both President and Secretary. And if there was spare time, she also knit sweaters for premature babies, baked and decorated cakes for Teck Pioneer for special occasions and supported animal welfare.
She was small but mighty!
Cecile passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2021. She was predeceased very recently by her husband of 66 years Bernard (Bud) Young and eldest son Michael (Bonnie). She is survived by her loving daughter and caregiver Corinne (David) Attwater and son Pat Young (Christopher) and granddaughter Jennifer Attwater.
The family would like to thank Teck Pioneer Residence and the attentive staff for making “mom” comfortable in her home away from home.
There will be no funeral at this time and a service will take place at a later date.
