CREERY, Carolyn Christine
1931 - 2023
Carolyn Christine Creery passed away in Ottawa on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, just shy of her 92nd birthday, with her family at her side.
Born in Granville Centre, Nova Scotia in 1931 to Florence (née Karnes) and Gilbert Willett, Carolyn left her Annapolis Valley home at 16 to study journalism at Carleton College (later University) in Ottawa. By the late 1950s she was a Canadian Press reporter with the National Press Gallery in Ottawa. She married fellow journalist Tim Creery, whom she accompanied to Québec City, Washington, Paris, Montréal and back to Ottawa.
Carolyn will be remembered as a gentle soul and a fierce fighter. She was feisty, smart and funny. Possessed of a beautiful singing voice, in her later years she was prone to suddenly burst into song.
Carolyn was predeceased by her father (1941, on active service in WW II), her mother (1999), and her husband Tim (2017). She leaves her sisters Doreen (Dodie) Daniels Shaffner and Elaine Iles as well as daughters Janet and Monica (Egya Sangmuah) and grandsons Ben, Liam, and Aggrey.
We wish to thank the staff of the Garry Armstrong residence and devoted caregiver Yvonne Emmett for their outstanding kindness and care over several years.
A memorial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday November 4 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ottawa at 400 McArthur Avenue.
