PETRANT-CHARLTON, Beverly Ann Jacqueline

1955 - 2022

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Beverly Ann Jacqueline Petrant-Charlton at her home peacefully surrounded by family – March 3, 1955 to May 9, 2022.

Beverly is the daughter of Mabel (Dolly) Sylvia Chief-Petrant and Edward (Kio) John Petrant (pre-deceased). Bev will also be greatly missed by her "other" mother (Auntie Clarabelle Chief) whom she lived with in Montreal QC.

Bev is loved and cherished by her husband of 48 years Kenneth Bruce Charlton, children Shaynne (Bill Zavitz), Douglas (Sandra McNeil) and Kenneth Jr. (Kim Kasner). Beverly will be deeply missed by her siblings Keith, Bryan (predeceased), Fred, Patricia and Kathy, and also from cousins Denise and Ghyslain (Montreal) at the age of 12 who she considered as sister and brother. Bev was also very close to her cousin Leona whom she considered a sister as well growing up in Temagami. She is a cherished grandmother to Kole, Derek, Jessica, Dean, Madison, and Jaclynn and a great grandmother to Bentley, Eden, Hendrix and Marlee. She touched the hearts of many nieces and nephews and extended family. Bev will dearly be missed by many brothers and sisters in laws as well as many friends.

Bev grew up in Temagami and was a member of Temagami First Nation located on Bear Island and she had family ties to Temiskaming Reserve in Notre Dame du Nord. While growing up in Temagami, Bev became best friends with Carol Larachelle Foresberg whom she remained in contact with right up until her passing.

Beverly is well known as a very strong person who fought her battle with Cancer for the last 5 years with courage, dignity and positivity. Bev was admired for her strength, generosity, caring nature as well as her humour.  She adored her family and was the Matriarch.  You could find Bev walking in minus 40 below weather in the Winter or sitting in the rain. She loved the cold. She loved sitting by the lake and fire and connected to her spirit animals of Butterflies, Loons and Hummingbirds.  Bev thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her sister in-law Cathy MacDonald at the cottage star gazing, kayaking, sitting by the water and peacefully enjoying their fires.

After leaving Montreal in the 80’s, Bev and Ken moved to Kirkland Lake where they raised their family and lived a quaint and harmonious life together. You would often find them working together whether it be cooking, cleaning, fixing projects, going for rides, fishing and hunting.  Words cannot express of how much this beautiful soul will be missed by so many.

Following Bev’s wishes there will be no service nor viewing. Cremation has taken place.  A casual and informal celebration of life will be held July 2nd 2022 for family and friends to gather at. As part of her celebration a Feast will be prepared as well as some Indigenous traditions/ceremonies will be implemented as well as the planting of a tree of life. Further details will be posted on “Bev’s Celebration of Life" Facebook page.

The family wishes to thank her many Doctor's at Health Sciences North as well as family and friends who delivered home cooked meals and who have donated towards the Celebration of Life.

Bev’s Family

With fond memories, I remember Bev & her husband when I moved into my very first place on my own, on McCamus. Bev was always accommodating & patient with me ~ & so caring. It’s as if she knew I was a chicky who left the nest & her warmth still resonates with me. My heart is with Bev & her family. I’m grateful to have known her.
