On Sunday, the 9th of December, with his sons at his side, Mr. Arthur Hastings went peacefully to be with his Lord. Predeceased by his wife of 59 years Jessie, he leaves to mourn his sisters Helen McGovern and Elizabeth Stewart as well as his sons Dale (Louise) and Richard (Susan). Known as Bampy to his seven grandchildren, Shawn, Jeffery, Scott, Stephanie, Jill, Mark and Brian, Arthur was proud of every one of them and the partners they have chosen. A recent recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II, Diamond Jubilee Medal, Arthur was a fiercely proud Canadian. He served in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps during WWII and afterward, continued his career with Canadian Pacific Railway. A past president of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10, Art thoroughly enjoyed suppers at the Legion on Friday nights with his comrades. An active Mason and Past Master of Victoria Lodge, Arthur was grateful for the support he received from his brethren during his illness. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, December 14, from 7 to 9 P.M at the Cass Funeral Home , 3006 College St. Sherbrooke (Lennoxville). A Legion Service will be held at 7 pm and a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm. A graveside service on Saturday, December 15 at 2 P.M. at Reedsville Cemetery in North Hatley, Reverend Mead Baldwin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged.
