CACNIO, Abigail “Nanay Abby”

2024

November 18, 1949 – November 27, 2024

It is with deep sadness and love that we announce the unexpected passing of Abigail “Nanay Abby” Cacnio on November 27, 2024. Born on November 18, 1949, in the Philippines, she was the seventh of eleven siblings. Her life was defined by her faith in God, and her love, compassion, and dedication to helping others.

Nanay Abby completed her education at La Consolacion College in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Arellano University in Manila, Philippines. In 1980, she moved to Jordan, where she worked as a server and receptionist at the Amman Marriott Hotel, dedicating herself to supporting her family back home.

In 1990, Nanay Abby migrated to Canada to work as a personal care assistant, eventually bringing her family for a better future. She transitioned as a healthcare aide giving care to elderlies in their private and nursing homes. Later on, she pursued her passion in professional hairstyling.

She is survived by her children, Polly (married to Gomer) and Fred (married to Rosalie), her grandchildren, Niko, Kamie, Shailee, and Syrenna, and her common-law husband, Rodolfo. She also leaves behind her siblings Normie, Luisa, Dante, and Joni, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, extended family, friends, and co-workers who will forever remember her warmth and love.

Nanay Abby was a person of many talents and passions. She found joy in sewing, cutting hair, and creating beauty in every aspect of her life. Her sense of style and love for fashion were gifts she shared with her family and friends, often serving as their personal stylist. Later in life, her greatest happiness came from her grandchildren, who filled her heart with endless joy and purpose.

She was the heart of her family—a pillar of strength, love, and guidance. Her generosity and compassion were boundless, and her presence brought light and comfort to everyone she met. Nanay Abby’s memory will forever live on in the countless lives she touched and the love she poured into her family, friends, and co-workers.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at East Gate Alliance Church, 550 Codd’s Rd, Ottawa, Ontario K1K 2G8, Canada, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. A light reception will follow at Pat Clark Community Center, 4355 Halmont Drive, Gloucester, ON K1J 8W6, Canada, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Nanay Abby’s love, kindness, and sacrifices will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
